Theo Ratliff (NBA Basketball)
From a humble background, Theophalus ”Theo” Curtis Ratliff was born in the small town of Demopolis, Alabama on April 17. Theo spent much of his childhood engaged in both sports and academics, earning awards for high achievement and team leadership. Theo attended college at the University of Wyoming demonstrating his commitment to excellence in sports and academics.
Mr. Theo Ratliff is a standout retired professional athlete, serial entrepreneur, philanthropist and family man. The former NBA All-Star was consistently one of the NBA’s premier shot blockers, leading the league for three straight seasons in blocked shots. His teams included the Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia Sixers’, San Antonio Spurs, Portland TrailBlazers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also served as the Vice- President of the NBA Players’ Union for 13 years where he was instrumental in leading domestic and international projects in Africa and China.
After playing 16 years in the NBA, Mr. Ratliff transitioned his full-time focus and skills to pursue business opportunities in the real estate, sports, and entertainment industries. Theo founded Ratliff Enterprises which manages a portfolio of diversified holdings in real estate, digital media, film and television, financial services, business consulting, and sports nutritional supplements. He has recently joined the United Management Investment team as a Managing Partner with a focus on Investor Relations and Funding.

Theo Ratliff Foundation
While playing professional basketball, Theo, the quiet- spoken, gentle-giant, always demonstrated a passion for supporting youth to become productive leaders in their communities. Compelled by his passion for youth development, he also founded The Theo Ratliff Activity Center in Demopolis, Alabama, a 21,000 square-foot facility to provide social and educational programs in the neighboring communities.
In 2013, Theo launched his second foundation, The Theo Ratliff Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to educate, inspire and empower youth globally through financial literacy, education and leadership development. He has donated nearly one million dollars to a host of charitable organizations and causes including his own, The Theo Ratliff Foundation.
Theo Ratliff has authored a wonderful book that candidly shares the story of his childhood experience with bullying, and most significantly, the lessons learned. Theo The Hero has been, and continues to be, an ideal teaching tool for school staff, parents and children who want to build and share communities that will not tolerate such destructive behavior.
S.T.E.M. Initiatives and Entrepreneur Programs
Through his foundation’s leadership, two of his youth entrepreneurs won 1st and 2nd place of a Business Pitch Competition at an International Global Forum in front of thousands of executives and world leaders. Theo was a keynote presenter at the world’s largest Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics festival visited by over 350,000 people.
Mr. Ratliff welcomes opportunities to encourage and inspire others to embrace his service-first attitude as an engaging guest speaker for schools, conferences and organizations. He is a member of the 100 Black Men of North Metro in Atlanta where he is an active Leadership Mentor to children.
